Support St John’s College
Looking to the Future
St John’s College, grounded in the Catholic tradition of commitment to university education, was founded upon the vision and generosity of our benefactors. Throughout our history, philanthropic gifts have furthered the mission of the College to foster a supportive environment where our students flourish academically, socially and spiritually, and depart College ready to serve as leaders in the wider community. Your support will help to continue this proud legacy.
Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships awarded are primarily based on high academic achievement or outstanding abilities, with financial circumstances taken into consideration, while bursaries awarded are based on financial need. St John’s is committed to providing opportunities for assistance with costs associated with living at the College. Various scholarships and bursaries are awarded at the discretion of the College to commencing and returning students.
Many students can credit a significant part of their academic success to having been awarded a scholarship or bursary. Apart from the peace of mind the release from financial worry affords, it becomes an additional incentive for recipients to perform even better, providing them a clearer path to future success. Our students come from different backgrounds, and this diversity contributes to the richness and vibrance of the College community. With your support, we can open our doors to more individuals who would otherwise not have the opportunity to enjoy all the advantages St John’s offers.

Building Fund
The historic neo-Gothic buildings of St John’s College date back to the late nineteenth century. They have provided a beautiful, unique living and study space for the generations of students who have called it their ‘home away from home’. The preservation of these heritage buildings through restoration projects will ensure they remain in the best condition for those who are here now and in the future. Furthermore, facilities require upgrades over time to address the evolving needs of the John’s community.
Your donation to the Building Fund will ensure that both our students and staff can study, live and work in a safe and comfortable environment where everyone can be at their best.
The Nagle Library and Hintze Building are just two of the more recent building projects that were completed and made possible through contributions from our generous benefactors.
Hardship Fund
Compassion, generosity and pastoral care define the College’s relationship with our students. This means not only assisting them achieve their academic goals but also nurturing their overall wellbeing.
St John’s College recognises the need to provide additional assistance to students suffering from financial hardship. The Hardship Fund was established to ensure they can confidently continue their university studies and reap the benefits of a well-rounded experience offered by St John’s.
The Hardship Fund will enable the College to defray 50% of a student’s semester fees and help us support them in their greatest time of need. Through your generosity, no one gets left behind.
Library Fund
The restoration of the Nagle Library in 2018 was made possible through the generosity of Justice John Nagle (1914-2009). The crowning jewel of St John’s learning spaces, it provides an ideal sanctuary where students can study in peace or collaborate in groups; it offers an ideal learning environment for students to pursue their academic goals.
The library is a veritable treasure trove of unique heritage collections and general resources including Greek and Latin texts from University of Adelaide Professor John Aloysius Fitzherbert’s (SJC 1910-1913) collection, liturgical books from the sixteenth century, and publications chronicling the College’s earliest history to name a few. St John’s is indebted to the generosity of various members of the College community for their contributions to the library collection.
Your contribution to the Library Fund will support our students’ aspirations to academic excellence.
Foundation Fund
The Foundation provides crucial partnership to the College in its philanthropic efforts, ensuring the latter's ability to continue offering financial support opportunities to its students.
Your donation to the Foundation Fund will help us continue with our commitment to serving our students' needs to the highest standards for the long term.
A Gift in your Will
A gift in your Will to St John’s College can contribute to a range of areas. It will help the College achieve its strategic priorities: Strengthen the Catholic foundation of life at St John’s; advance St John’s as a centre for intellectual enquiry; develop our campus and facilities to the standard required for the College to fulfil its mission; conserve our heritage and make it more accessible to the wider community, and; offer the advantages of residence in the College to more students, without diminishing the quality of the St John’s experience.
Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the most fulfilling ways to invest in the future of the College. Any size gifts count.
